(TULSA, Okla.) – Workers at Imperial Coffee in Tulsa have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 886. The group of 65 drivers and merchandisers organized to secure higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
“These workers stood united and brought home a decisive victory,” said Tom Ritter, President of Local 886. “They organized for real change, and now we’re ready and eager to fight for the first contract they deserve.”
“This is the result of a summer of hard work—long days of campaigning, meeting, and fighting for each other,” said Will Hanna, a transport driver at Imperial Coffee and a new Local 886 member. “We’re proud to officially be Teamsters!”
In August, workers demanded that Imperial Coffee recognize their right to collectively bargain. In response, management launched an aggressive union-busting campaign, including nearly daily captive audience meetings led by one of the nation’s largest anti-union firms.
“All the hard work, sleepless nights, and stress have paid off,” said Rodney Montgomery, a route driver, and a new Local 886 member. “Management couldn’t break our resolve. Now, we are Teamsters.”
